Excel XLS recovery tutorial

You can easily recover XLS, XLSX and XLW files that have been deleted or lost using the Office Recovery or Excel Recovery software. This tutorial will show you how. The screenshots show how to use Office Recovery, but the process is identical whichever product you use. The only difference is that Excel Recovery is only able to recover Excel files, while Office Recovery may be used to recover other Microsoft Office document types as well.

Installed the software, then you are ready to start.

1. Start Office Recovery or Excel Recovery and click Next.

2. Now select the drive on which your Excel XLS / XLW files were saved, and click Next.

3. Wait while the program searches for traces of Excel files. As spreadsheets are found, a preview window shows the contents.

4. When the scan is complete, Office Recovery shows a list of the files it has found. You can use the Settings option to choose how the list is displayed. You may also use filters to restrict the list of recovered files to those containing specific text, having a specific title or author, having been modified on a certain date and so on.

5. Click on a file to see a preview of the contents. Click the Preview button to see a full preview in another window. You can also click Properties to view the file summary information attached to the document.

6. To recover Excel files, select them by ticking the check boxes beside each name, and click Recover. Office Recovery will ask where the recovered files. This should be a different drive to the one that contained the files so as not to overwrite the space containing the data you want to recover. You should choose a location such as a network drive, external drive or memory stick.
